7-21-07 Switching it up a bit – on to Grand Trails-Corydon, IN

With all of the moving around we’ve been doing at Deam Lake (5 times in 12 days, chalk it up to reservation issues) we’ve decided it’s time to move again. After hours of searching, we finally found a place in Corydon called Grand Trails.

Grand Trails is located 2 blocks from downtown on the banks of a small creek (if the water were a little higher you might be able to call it a river). So, for a change of pace, I might have some “Town Life” stories to tell you. In fact, I think I’ll tell you a little about Corydon.

Historic Corydon became the first capital after Indiana became a state. It was moved from Vincennes because of Corydon’s central location. Later the capital was moved to it’s current location in Indianapolis.

Corydon was also a battle site during the Civil War. While walking around the square, you will notice a small museum at the battle site as well as the old capital building. There are also many historical information placards giving little tidbits of information.

Corydon, I guess, is like any “small town”. There are many great little shops on the square including a great music store, a furniture store and an array of artsy/crafty shops. I also noticed quite a few café’s and even a health foods store.

In my opinion, Corydon would be a great stop-over or Sunday drive for anyone in the area. In fact, I noticed many of the stores have Sunday hours and are closed for a day or two during the week.

~happy meandering!!
